Error occurs when attempting to preview a Daily Layout Summary Report.
Observed behavior:
Report fails when clicking Preview
Issue occurs consistently within the affected project
The issue is caused by the use of an unsupported character (#) in the Point File Name.
When a point file name contains the # character, FieldLink may fail to properly parse the file, which can prevent the Daily Layout Summary Report from previewing or generating.
Remove the # character from the point file name.
Example (Problematic):
BLDG 6&7 MAJOUT #2
Supported alternatives:
BLDG 6&7 MAJOUT No 2
BLDG 6&7 MAJOUT 2
After renaming the file, reopen the project and preview the report again.
If renaming the file is not immediately possible:
Create a new FieldLink project
Import the existing TFLX file into the new project
Generate the Daily Layout Summary Report
This workaround has been confirmed to allow report creation.
Although not the primary cause, point naming conventions can contribute to reporting issues:
Point names are limited to 16 characters
Names exceeding this limit may be truncated
Truncation can result in duplicate point names, especially when:
Points are imported from CSV files
Points originate from non‑Trimble software
Recommendation:
Keep point names ≤ 16 characters
Move descriptive text to the layer name instead of the point name
Example:
Original point name: PT_WASTE3-897-A
Recommended:
Layer: PT_WASTE3
Point Name: 897-A
