This knowledge base article explains the “Coordinate System Database file is missing or corrupted” error in Trimble FieldLink, why it occurs, and how it relates to site control–based workflows.

This error occurs when FieldLink attempts to use its local coordinate system database and that database is missing or corrupted. It most commonly happens when a new project is created locally and a coordinate system is explicitly selected.

If the project already contains site control, a global coordinate system is not required for layout. Opening the project from the cloud (Trimble Connect) or creating the project without selecting a coordinate system allows FieldLink to rely on the existing control-based reference and avoids this error.

Resolution Options

Option 1 – Open the Project from cloud (Trimble Connect) (Recommended)

• Open the existing project directly from cloud (Trimble Connect)

• Use the embedded site control for layout

• No coordinate system selection required

Option 2 – Recreate the Project Without Selecting a Coordinate System

• Delete the affected local project

• Create a new project

• Do not select a coordinate system

• Use site control to define the job

Option 3 – Reset FieldLink Local Data (If the Error Persists)

If the error appears even when no coordinate system is selected:

• Close FieldLink

• Delete the hidden FieldLink AppData folder

• Relaunch FieldLink and recreate or open the project
