Trimble RTS - Radio Troubleshooting Guide

Replacing the Antenna

Most of the time radio connection issues persist from a bad antenna.

  1. Replace antenna on RTS with a new one and connect to tablet within Field Link.
  2. Walk away from RTS with tablet roughly 300’ feet away to test connection
    1. If the problem Persists, go to the next step.
  3. Replace antenna on Data Collector and connect to RTS with new Antenna.
  4. Walk away from RTS with tablet roughly 300’ feet away to test connection
    1. If the problem Persists, Try changing the Radio Frequency.
  5. Disconnect Tablet from RTS.

Changing the Radio Frequency

At times the radio connection could be experiencing some interference by other radio waves. By changing the frequencies it should help clear up any interference.
  1. Restart the RTS and press the Enter  button once within the 10 second countdown.
    1. Press  once the electronic bubble level appears.
    2. Press the Down arrow  button until the indicator arrow on the left is next to the radio settings option.
    3. Press  to select Radio Settings
    4. On the Radio Settings screen you will have the option to change the Radio Channel or Network ID, both will be changed several times for troubleshooting procedures.
  2. Start by selecting the Radio channel with and then .
  3. There are 30 radio channels you can choose from to set the Radio frequency by tapping or holding down . Set the radio channel to begin with to 1.
  4. Press to select SET, press to confirm.
  5. Press to Set Network ID and repeat the steps above, There are 255 Network ID you can choose from. Set the network ID to 1 to begin with.
  6. Once both the radio channel and network ID have been set to 1, Connect the tablet to the RTS and walk away from the RTS 300' to test the radio connection. 
  7. If the problem still occurs, Set the Radio Channel to 15 and the Network ID to 127. Then test the radio connection again.
  8. If the problem still occurs, change the channel to 30 and Network ID to 255. Then test the radio connection again.
